Does the same exercise performed by two people, with identical physiological conditions, produce the same results?
According to a well-known sports equipment brand, the answer is YES. The “Just do It” myth is born. Advertising aside (it is a recognized slogan that has given rise to several successful campaigns), from a scientific point of view, the truth is that this slogan is based on motivational premises already refuted by the evidence.
Evidence shows that the same exercise, performed by two people under identical physiological conditions, may have different results in terms of enjoyment of the practice and well-being, depending on the underlying psychological conditions . In particular, motivational factors and mindset lead to different short-, and more importantly, long-term results (ie, maintenance vs. quitting the practice).
