London 2012 has so far generated a magnificent display of medals for the GB rowing Team.

But how did rowing evolve from a means of transport and warefare to become a sport and what exactly is it doing in the Olympics?

London 2012 Olympic sailing: Morrison and Rhodes struggle despite message from Paul McCartney

London 2012 Olympic sailing: Morrison and Rhodes struggle despite message from Paul McCartney | Results London 2012 Olympics | Scoop.it
Steve Morrison didn't get his Olympic campaign off to the brightest start - despite a good luck message from Paul McCartney.Along with Ben Rhodes, the duo finished in twelfth place in both heats...

Morrison and Rhodes have just won 1st place in the Men's 49 Race 7.

It seems that the strength of character shown in the face of their loss Tuesday (12th place) has enabled them to continue on to win today's race with a great time of 29:47.

They seem to have found some effective Compeed for that initial blister* of a performance...

A Medal For Jamieson In 200m Breaststroke | Results London 2012 Olympics | Scoop.it

"Britain won silver in the 200m breaststroke final on Wednesday night, completing a stellar fifth day for the Great Britain team."

Oh yeaaaah, Michael Jamieson made my day yesterday, finishing off what was an awesome day for TeamGB at last.

The best bit, we honestly didn't have him down for such a performance. None of the usual build up which so far seems to doom most of our athletes to imminent failure.

Its his first Olympics and I didn't know that much about him?

But I'll remember him now, especially for the quote " would have made gold if the pool has been a bit longer"

Sport is suppose to be pure competition between human being, based on the individual merits and talents of men and women. That is why we have referees and rules : As a rule of nature, in sport we are not all equal.

That is also why the debate around performance enhancing drugs and technological and scientific advancements in this domain are so controversial:  technology and sport go hand in hand yet they hinder sport as a competition.  Using performance enhancing technology surely means that everybody and everybody would be able to win? probably he or she who has the most money and/or sponsorship!

Where should we draw the line, and can we draw the line in the face of ever-advancing technology an innovation?

This article suggests that its up to sportsmen and sportswomen as well as spectators to know when to say stop.

Blown Away! Greatest Day Of Sport For Britain

Blown Away! Greatest Day Of Sport For Britain | Results London 2012 Olympics | Scoop.it
Euphoric Britain glories in winning six Olympic gold medals in a day – and there are hopes for even more victories today.

All Olympic sports from now on should require either a bike or a boat.

Sure, OK, a couple of exceptions to the rule to make it fair play:

the long jump, heptathlon and men's 10,000m for example.

And a race including each of the above sports.

Team GB top of medal table hands down!

London 2012: B3 Gold medals in 1 hour for Team GB in athleteics

London 2012: B3 Gold medals in 1 hour for Team GB in athleteics | Results London 2012 Olympics | Scoop.it
The hyperbole about the greatest show on Earth seemed justified as event after event, athlete after athlete was upstaged...

Jessica Ennis won Olympic heptathlon gold for Great Britain in front of a rapturous home crowd in the Olympic Stadium.

But thats not all. Within the same hour, Greg Rutherford then went on to win Britain Gold for the long jump and Mo Farah took a magnificant Gold in 10,000m.

Team GB rock! Awesome results for awesome athletes supported by an team of (wait for it...) awesome professional trainers, scientists and engineers.

Well deserved medals for beautiful performances and lots of long term dedication.

Criticism that the Olympics only promotes elitist athletes and fails to integrate grassroots models to encourage amateur athletes have lead to the suggestion that professional athletes should not receive Olympics medals.

Looking at the display of professionalism and dedication for out GB team over the last week, who would dream of not rewarding them for such performances for their country.

Bit of perspective please people!

Bobby White: In the opening period against France Team GB played the best handball of their careers...

Team GB show some flair on the pitch, even if it was not to last.

Well, its true that in the end we took quite a beating from the French side, who, after their shame at their failure to qualify in the Euro championships just recently, needed to prove to both their followers and themselves that they are capable of winning the Olympics.

But that taken into account, we held our own for a first Olympic appearance.
