Four ways to maximize the effectiveness of youth employment programs

The youth employment challenge is a stubborn reality in all regions and nearly every country. Over 35 per cent of the estimated 201 million unemployed people today are youth (between the ages of 15 and 24).  Worldwide, the challenge is not only to create jobs but to ensure quality jobs for young people who are often underemployed, work in the informal economy, or engage in vulnerable employment. Today, two out of every five young people in the labor force are either working but poor or unemployed.

European Union. Attitudes towards vocational education and training

Canadian Vocational Association / Association canadienne de la formation professionnelle's insight:
European Union. Attitudes towards vocational education and training

Vocational education and training, which nearly half of all Europeans choose to enrol in after their compulsory education, has a generally positive image among most age groups, linked to the high quality of training on offer and the strong job prospects that this brings. However, only 27% of young people aged 15-24 say they would recommend it to their peers, which shows that more needs to be done to improve the image and attractiveness of vocational educational and training within this crucial age group.

Africa. Lifting Africa up by empowering its youth

Africa. Lifting Africa up by empowering its youth | Vocational education and training - VET | Scoop.it
Founder of the African Leadership Academy, Fred Swaniker, encourages Africa to empower its young people to solve issues of unemployment in African youth.
Canadian Vocational Association / Association canadienne de la formation professionnelle's insight:

Finding opportunities for young people is a critical challenge for Africa, where 62 percent of the population—more than 600 million young people—is below the age of 25. With no signs that population growth will slow in the decades to come, it is imperative that Africa leverage the talent and energy of its youth to create dramatically higher levels of prosperity and equality and avoid the latent risks of unemployment and social instability.
